The Boxee supports a vast array of formats pretty much every video file you can throw at it, and even high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. Video output is HDMI only, and can go up to 1080p – unlike Apple TV, which only does 720p. One side has a Boxee logo that lights up when it’s running, while the other has an SD card slot, and the rear panel carries the ports. Rather than a straightforward cube, it’s had the bottom sliced off, giving it the appearance of sinking into the table top. Well, now Boxee has finally released its own device called (appropriately enough) the Boxee Box.

It’s essentially a small form factor PC running the Boxee software, itself based on the excellent XBMC. Boxee and D-Link did announce a firmware update (must be the season, Roku just announced one as well), that it says is generally cosmetic and aimed at improving.
